On June 28 the Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks sponsored its 17th annual FOOD KART DAY supporting Webb Community Food Pantry located at St. Bartholomew's Church in Old Forge.
Twenty-three Kiwanis members, friends, families, and other volunteers were stationed at Kalil's Market in Inlet, DiOrio's Supermarket in Old Forge, and at Kinney Drugs in Old Forge. Shoppers were asked to consider buying non-perishable food items, then drop them off in the grocery carts stationed at store exits. Each shopper was given a "Shopping List" of non-perishable items needed by the Food Pantry. Some generous donors filled whole shopping carts!
In addition to full carts, $1,000 of cash donations were collected. Jane Cameron, Director, stated: "The local Kiwanis Food Kart Day resulted in grand donations of nonperishable food items given to our Food Pantry. Special thanks go to the Kiwanis Club, and to all the generous donors who contributed items at DiOrio's Supermarket, Kalil's Market, and the Old Forge Kinney Drug store."
At the end of the day, Kiwanis volunteers transported food items that filled 5 pantry tables for distribution from St. Bartholomew's Church. Kiwanis Members and volunteers contributed more than 30 hours to the project.
