The North Shore Kiwanis Club recently honored Students of Mont for October and December.

The North Shore Kiwanis Club honored Carly Rovner, a North Shore High School senior, as the October recipient Student of the Month.

She has more than 300 hours of community service in a wide variety of projects and programs. Some outstanding accomplishments include being an active 4-year member of the Key Club, as well as a mentor in the North Shore Buddy Program; being a role model as a mentor for middle school age students. Other programs she participated in were Youth Decide Peer Leaders and was a member of the AIDS Peer Educator Program.

Carly has also traveled abroad and shared many of her exciting experiences at the Kiwanis dinner honoring her as our Student of the Month. Carly will attend Bucknell University in the fall.

The Student of the Mont for December was Julia Albanese, also a senior at North Shore High School.

When she received the award, Julia explained why she became a member of the Key Club to give back to the North Shore Community. Julia related many of the projects she had the pleasure to volunteer for and how proud she felt to be able to share her time to make a difference.

Her experiences included a visit to the Nassau County Children's Medical Center; giving a cuddly Teddy bear to a sick child and putting a smile on that child's face, going to the Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park and cooking dinner for the families, as well as creating arts and crafts with the children who were residence at RMH and patients at Cohen's Children Medical Center.

She told about some very special moments at St Christopher-Ottillie Children's Home and the annual holiday party, where she interacted with the residents with arts and crafts, as well as helping Kiwanian Santa and his key clubber elf, who also arrived and gave out gifts to the children.
