K-Kids President Sofia presents the club’s Green Chimneys donation to Unity Kiwanian Ilyssa Fuchs.

Members of the Bowling Green K-Kids and Clarke Builders Club joined Kiwanians of the Nassau County Unity Club at a toiletries collection drive to benefit Green Chimneys. The group, divided into two shifts, passed out flyers asking East Meadow Walgreens customers to donate toiletries needed by Green Chimney’s shelters for runaway and homeless youth.

Green Chimneys is a charity centered in Brewster which runs a multitude of programs aimed at helping troubled youth. One of the unique aspects of Green Chimneys’ programs include helping youth build positive relationships by working with animals in need of rehabilitation.

The toiletries collected were targeted for Green Chimneys’ shelters for runaway and homeless LGBTQ teens in New York City.

The Bowling Green K-Kids were excited by Green Chimneys’ “Sponsor an Animal” program. After the K-Kids Board took an internet vote approving a $50 donation, President Sofia Passariello presented a donation to Unity Kiwanian Ilyssa Fuchs. Ilyssa had brought Green Chimneys to the K-Kid’s attention. The K-Kids donation will sponsor the rehabilitation of a rabbit and a goat at the farm residential program in Brewster. While being rehabilitated, the animals will help the teens in residence build positive relationships and learn responsibilities.
