International Convention Registration Early Bird Deadline

On Feb. 15, 2012 the Kiwanis International Convention Registrations increase from $195 to $250. So, please, go to www.kiwanisone.org/convention/registration and register on line to save some big bucks!

The convention, of course will be in New Orleans and the New York District Kiwanis will be staying at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside, right next to the Convention Center.

By the way, this is the convention where Favorite Son Past Governor Tom DeJulio will be elected as Kiwanis International President! Look for an announcement soon about a spectacular New York Celebration when Tom becomes International President Designate!

Mid-Year Conference

The committee has listened to Kiwanians from all around the district and so we have designed this conference to be educational for the "everyday" Kiwanian and for our District leadership team.

We have forums on Running an effective meeting, Club Treasurer Secrets Shared, The History of NY District Kiwanis and Protocol, a New Club Project brainstorming session, New fund raising ideas focusing on the small club, Getting your Club News Out, new membership initiatives, practical help on websites and all the social media and of course you will hear from out foundations and Service Leadership Programs and more. We even have a session for all you past presidents to find out what is involved in becoming a Lt. Governor and why you should seriously consider it.

And we will have fun as well! Governor Bill will be breaking out his saxophone and you can groove with him on Friday night in the Courtyard area where there will be division hospitality rooms open to the courtyard.

The Holiday Inn at Wolf Road has been very cooperative. The package prices they have put together for us are outstanding. And if you do not like what you see, just give Jack Roddy a call at 518-533-1782 and he can craft a package just for you. In case you do not have it, the address for the hotel is:

Annual 990 Filing Reminder

Beginning in 2008, some organizations that were not required to file tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) - including Kiwanis Clubs - have a new filing requirement: the electronic postcard Form 990-N http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=169250,00.html.

To file the electronic Form 990-N, you will need your club's

Previously the threshold was $25,000 or less but for years ending after December 31, 2010, that amount was increased. Because Kiwanis International and most clubs operate on a fiscal year (October 1 - September 30), the current year filing will be for the tax period that begins Oct. 1, 2010 and ends Sept. 30, 2011 with a filing date of Feb. 15, 2012*

Refer to the IRS website http://www.irs.gov/charities/ to see if the ruling applies to your club.

*Tax-exempt organizations with January and February filing due dates will have until March 30, 2012 to file their annual returns, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced.

The IRS is granting this extension of time to file because of the part of the e-file system that processes electronically filed returns of tax-exempt organizations will be off-line during January and February.

The agency stressed that the rest of the e-file system will continue to operate normally and urged all individuals and businesses to choose the accuracy, speed and convenience of electronic filing.
