The Kiwanis International Board last met in January by teleconference, at a savings of approximately $50,000. The following actions took place at our meeting:
We accepted our 2016-17 consolidated audit report; approved our auditors for the 2017-18 year; and reviewed our investment policy and our current investment report.
We authorized an expenditure of up to $110,000 to fund a current and future functionality assessment of an association management system.
We extended the Rose Float Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the California-Nevada-Hawaii District, its foundation, and the Kiwanis Club of Rosefloat of Pasadena for an additional year at a cost of $60,000. It is anticipated that an additional $25,000 will be expended for t-shirts for the SLP volunteers who construct our float.
We approved matching grant requests from the Japan District in the amount of $3,500, the New Zealand-South Pacific District in the amount of $3,350, and a one-time subsidy to Korea for an English-speaking staff person.
We voted to propose amendments to the Kiwanis International Bylaws to require districts to have advance permission from our board to endorse a candidate for international office by vote of their district board rather than their house of delegates; and to require members to have completed a term as immediate past governor before formally announcing their candidacy for a Kiwanis International office.
We approved trustees Chuck Gugliuzza and Richard G. Olmstead Jr. to serve as next year's board-counselors to Circle K International and Key Club International, respectively.
As of the end of February, 127 new clubs with 2,371 charter members have been reported for the 2017-18 year, including two organized in our district, South Buffalo and Valley Stream.
