The WT Clarke Builders Club received its charter, gong, gavel and banners in a formal ceremony on January 20, 2010.
The presentation was attended by K-family dignitaries, school personnel and the club members' families.
Sponsored by the East Meadow Kiwanis Club, the WT Builders Club fills in the gap between the Bowling Green K-Kids and the WT Clarke Key Club. This is the first time East Meadow Kiwanis has been able to provide the full range of Kiwanis Service Leadership Programs to its K-12 students.
The impetus to charter this Builders Club came from the charter members of the Bowling Green K-Kids who had graduated from elementary school and entered WT Clarke Middle School. The K-Kids alumni, wanting the build on the foundation of service leadership they developed in K-Kids, worked tirelessly to convince the appropriate school officials to approve the club and provide the necessary funding for a faculty advisor.
The ceremony which was called to order by President Pro Tempore Irteza Tariq included a welcome by Principal Staci Breslin, an introduction by Faculty Advisor Gerald Ferrara and congratulatory remarks by LISC Kiwanis Service Leadership Chair Rich Santer.
While LISC Kiwanis Lt. Gov. Tony Genova presented the club's official charter, East Meadow Kiwanians presented their newest sponsored club with their gong, gavel and banners In turn, Builders Club Charter President Marissa Flaherty presented the sponsor banner patch the EM Kiwanis President Jim Mancuso.
