Sullivan County Kiwanis Family Walk Fights Hunger

club news

The Kiwanis clubs of Monticello and Woodridge hosted the Kiwanis Family Walk for Hunger on May 20 beginning at the Ted Stroebele Recreation Center in Monticello.

Participants included Kiwanis members as well as their sponsored K-Kids, Builders and Key Clubs within the Monticello and Fallsburg school districts, and members of the Aktion Club of Sullivan County. Friends and family also joined in the festivities.

Proceeds of the walk benefited the United Way of Sullivan County and its many affiliated food pantries and back pack programs in the local schools. A check in the amount of $1,050 was presented to Julian Dawson, United Way's Chief Professional Officer, in addition to a large amount of non-perishable food items. In preparation for the Walk for Hunger, the Monticello and Woodridge Kiwanis Family collected food and monetary donations at the Monticello Shop Rite Supermarket a few weeks earlier.

Everyone enjoyed a pleasant walk, camaraderie, good food and a wonderful feeling of fulfillment at the end of the event knowing that they have helped with the battle against hunger in our area.
