The Kiwanis Club of Monticello was busy in November with special events. On Nov. 7 they hosted the annual Bernie Shore Memorial Roast Beef Dinner. It was a huge success; more than 240 dinners were prepared by Chef Jay Shore. Key Club members and one of their advisors from the Monticello High School did an excellent job assisting in greeting and serving the guests.

On Nov. 16 the Kiwanis Club donated 11 bags of food to the Family Court Children's Center Food Drive. The Children's Center Head Teacher Brenda Blackburn Cruz was thrilled to receive these items delivered by Kiwanis Vice President Jane Sorensen, Kiwanis Secretary/Family Court Support Magistrate Karen Linen and Kiwanis board members Martha Johnson and Sheila Lashinsky.

Continuing on the theme of community service and food donations, Julian Dawson, executive director of United Way of Sullivan County, attended a recent Kiwanis meeting and was presented with 8 turkeys and 23 bags of food trimmings to be distributed to needy families in the area for their Thanksgiving enjoyment. In addition, members of the Monticello Kiwanis Club, as well as the High School Key Club, Middle School Builders Club and the Sullivan County Aktion Club helped out with setting up and serving at the Interfaith Council Thanksgiving Dinner, which was held at the Monticello Middle School on Nov. 19.

The busy month of activities ended with the successful Rose Sale resulting in the sale of 100 dozen beautiful multi-colored roses at $15 per dozen.
