The Monticello Middle School Builders Club has had a busy 2016.

They hosted the annual Valentine's Day Dance, which was enjoyed by 140 Middle School Students.  They danced to the music of DJ Spencer Daniel, enjoyed delicious refreshments and were able to shine wearing glow bracelets and necklaces. The room was decorated with hearts, which covered the walls, windows and doorways.

Continuing on the theme of hearts, the Builders Club continued their tradition of selling paper hearts to benefit the WVOS/WSUL Heart-a-thon. The club members raised $170 that went toward purchasing equipment for the Cardiac Department at Catskill Regional Medical Center. The "Heart Man", Al Frangipane, personally thanked the club for its contribution, posed with them in front of the heart display and presented the Builders Club with a certificate of appreciation.

In March the Builders Club made its annual visit to the Skilled Nursing Unit at Catskill Regional Medical Center, bearing gifts of glow bracelets for each resident. The students and residents bonded with each other while playing games and getting to know each other by having a question and answer session, i.e. "Would you rather be a lawyer or a doctor, and why?" or "What is your favorite season and why?" There were a lot of interesting questions and both the Builders Club as well as the Nursing Home residents gave excellent answers.

In April the students visited the local SPCA where they delivered loads of cat food, dog food, cat litter, towels and blankets, which were received warmly by Director Deborah Dittert and her staff.  These items were purchased with the proceeds from their Valentine's Day Dance.  The students enjoyed the visit and played withh the dogs and cats.  They also helped feed the animals.

The Builders Club is sponsored by the Monticello Kiwanis Club and is under the supervision of School Faculty Advisor William Oefelein and Kiwanis Club members Sheila Lashinsky and Patricia Monteverde.
