The Bowling Green K-Kids honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by participating in service projects over the MLK Day weekend.

K-Kids members were encouraged to select their own service projects that focused on people from all walks of life coming together in the service of others.

K-Kids member Sophia Buzzeo, whose father coordinates the Parish Youth Ministry, invited club members of any faith to join St. Brigid's Peanut Butter and Jelly Gang for the Martin Luther King National Day of Service Weekend.

Nearly half the club joined members of St. Brigid's Confirmation class, the WT Clarke Builders Club and youth from the parish to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless and the hungry of Long Island.

Working together, the volunteers created 848 sandwiches which were sent to Brentwood for distribution to shelters and soup kitchens throughout the area.

Other projects included Sophia Ruperto visiting senior citizens at the Bristol Assisted Living Facility, Sydney Follick making cherry pie for a needy family in her neighborhood and Isabella DiCostanzo and her girl scout troop making food for a soup kitchen.
