In a flurry of fundraisers and service projects, the Bowling Green K-Kids focused their holiday giving on celebrating the holidays with their community, donating to the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center at Cohen Children’s Medical Center and on feeding the hungry of East Meadow and Westbury.

Right after school on Friday, the K-Kids met at the CASA Holiday Tree Lighting to place the Disney’s Frozen-themed snow flake ornaments the club members had made on the community Christmas tree.

After a dinner break, the K-Kids returned to school to host their annual “K”aroling for KPTC and Holiday Hot Chocolate Party. The K-Kids were joined by East Meadow Kiwanians, WT Clarke Key Clubbers, East Meadow Aktion Clubbers, WT Clarke Builders Clubbers and Meadowbrook K-Kids. After dividing into 5 caroling groups, the SLP members took to the streets around Bowling Green Elementary School to sing holiday songs and ask for donations to the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. An hour or so of caroling yielded over $550 in donations.

On Saturday, the K-Kids joined the rest of the East Meadow K-family clubs at Stop & Shop for the East Meadow Kiwanis Christmas/Hanukah Food Drive. At Stop & Shop, the K-Kids and other SLPs collected over 20 cartons of donated nonperishable food and over $100 in cash for turkeys.

The weekend of service culminated with the K-Kids running a Frozen-themed table at the KPTC Holiday Shopping Extravaganza. At their table, the K-Kids sold Make Your Own Olaf Ornaments and accepted donations for photos with Young Princess Anna and Young Princess Elsa. K-Kids President Sofia Passariello played Princess Anna while members Kailey Jones, Isabella DiCostanzo and Sophia Ruperto played Elsa in shifts. The table, including a generous gift from the Joey Foundation, generated more than $500 in proceeds for the K-Kids to donate to KPTC.

The weekend of service resulted in $1,070 for the K-Kids to donate to the trauma center.
