Each year the Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks collects and distributes gifts and toys to special families in the Woodgate, White Lake, Otter Lake, Thendara, Old Forge, Eagle Bay, Inlet and Racquette Lake area. This year Kiwanis will be expanding its Christmas for Kids project to Long Lake and Indian Lake.
Central Adirondack Kiwanis is partnering with The Marine Corps League "Toys for Tots" program who have provided various gifts for the older children on Santa's List. Kiwanis Member Bill Ransom will be coordinating with The Marine Corps League efforts in the Central Adirondacks.
The collection boxes placed at local business and post offices will be identified as jointly sponsored by both organizations. In addition, The Marine Corps League will participate in the annual Christmas on Main St. Parade and will have a van collecting toys and gifts. The community is encouraged to bring toys and gifts to the parade and deposit in The Marine Corps League van.
The program provides gifts and toys to more than 200 families in the Central Adirondack region.
Gift and Toy collection locations will be at Adirondack Bank, Community Bank, Dan's Big M, George's Thing, Inlet Department Store (ACE), Kinney Drugs, Old Forge Department Store (ACE), Old Forge Hardware, Smith Marine and Souvenir Village. In addition, there are toy collection sites at the following Post Offices; Old Forge, Eagle Bay, Inlet, Thendara and Woodgate. The gift and toy collection Nov. 20 until Dec. 15
The Key Club of the Town of Webb School assists Kiwanis with this important holiday project and will participate in the gift-wrapping party that is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 17 at VIEW beginning at 3 p.m.
To help raise money for the project, the club is conducting a Holiday Raffle. A basket of cheer and a basket of toys is expected to generate more than $1,100. Tickets will be on sale in front of Wilderness Interiors during the Christmas on Main St. weekend.
