Jeopardy Game Benefits Eliminate Project

club news

The Suffolk West Division's meeting July 17 used a version of the television show Jeopardy to raise money for the Eliminate Project.

The meeting took place the day before the request for clubs and division to host an event to coincide with the Eliminate Walk taking place the following day at the Kiwanis International Convention in Japan.

Lindenshurst President Richard J. Renna and a friend designed an event, a computer game version of Jeopardy that those attending the meeting could play as a gorup.

Tables of Kiwanians were divided into teams – each team had its own distinct colored buzzer which, when pushed, lit up a multi colored light sitting on a table for all to see. Projected on a movie screen at the front of the room was a grid originating from Renna’s laptop consisting of five categories and dollar values from $20 to $100 listed below in columns.

Renna, acting as Alec Trebek, began by selecting the first category and chose the $20 question. The first group to hit the buzzer - indicated by the colored light - got to answer the question. If the group got the answer right they received points equal to the dollar value and could choose the next category and dollar amount. The question was read aloud and, once again, the first team to hit the buzzer won the points.
The team that had the highest points at the end of the game when all the categories and questions had been chosen won a box of delicious cookies to share with their table.

It was a fun event and everyone attending could and did take part. Plus some of the newcomers learned a few facts about Kiwanis they had not known. Donations were also collected from the attendees and proceeds along with the $1 for wrong answers will be sent in to the Eliminate Project.
