Students from the Robert J. Kaiser Middle School Builders Club in Monticello recently sponsored a Dog and Cat Food Drive to benefit the Sullivan County SPCA in Rock Hill.
Decorative collection boxes were placed in the main lobby of many of the school buildings and the response from the student body was overwhelming. The boxes were filled to the brim with food and toys for the animals.
The students were greeted by SPCA Shelter Manager Deborah Dittert and one of the shelter's big, but friendly dogs who had the run of the place. Once inside, there were smiles and excitement all around - with dogs wagging their tails running over to the students, who just "ate it up" and wanted to take every one of the animals home with them. Some of the children will be visiting the shelter with their parents for the possibility of a pet adoption. Ms. Dittert said "It was wonderful having the students visiting us and seeing them so happy to do nice things for the animals. I would love to have them back again."
The Builders Club is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Monticello. Its advisor is William Oefelein, Technology Teacher, and the liaison is Jane Sorensen, Kiwanis President.
