The New York District Convention will take place Aug. 19-23 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Albany.
Once again the event will feature business sessions which will chart the district's work for the next year, including the election of officers for the District and Foundation board members.
There also will be time for Kiwanis training and information, and on the candidacy of Past Gov. Thomas DeJulio for Vice President of Kiwanis International at next June's International Convention.
It also will be an opportunity for Kiwanis fellowship and to honor the district's leaders of the past for their efforts.
Convention and hotel registration forms, information on other events taking place at the convention, and more is available.
Kiwanis International is inviting organizations, institutions and individuals to help identify its next Worldwide Service Project—a directed program that engages Kiwanis members and others to make a positive difference by helping children in need around the world. One need not be a member of the Kiwanis family to propose an idea.
Proposals are due by October 1, 2009, and must:
- Involve a child-focused issue or problem
- Be compelling and relevant
- Involve a global and a local level of participation and impact
- Include hands-on service and fund raising
- Address a virtually solvable problem or issue
- Support Kiwanis membership growth
- Lead to life-changing experiences
- Be aligned with Kiwanis’ brand promise: Leadership and character education that lead to life-changing service
All proposals must be submitted in electronic format. Please direct general questions to the Worldwide Service Project Coordinator, Elizabeth Warren, at 317-217-6211. Media queries and/or appointments with contacts should be coordinated through our public relations staff at 317-217-6171, or e-mail. Please complete the request for proposal online.
Kiwanis will accept proposals until October 1, 2009, and will announce its second Worldwide Service Project in June 2010 at the 95th annual Kiwanis International convention in Las Vegas.
During the Kamp Kiwanis Open House on June 6, the kamp's newest cabin, sponsored by the Patchogue club, was dedicated.
At last year's open house the cabin's future site was noted, but the building is now virtually complete and will be ready for use by kampers this summer.
District Foundation President Sal Anelli thanked the Patchogue club for its follow-through on its commitment to fund the construction of the cabin, and the many volunteers from Patchogue and elsewhere who assisted with its construction.
Pictured at right are Anelli (at left) and Patchogue President Angelo Tarantino during the dedication. Behind them is the cabin, wrapped in a red ribbon for the event.
The lieutenant governors for 2009-10 and Gov. Elect David Booker also gathered for their first meeting over the weekend and participated in the open house. They are pictured below, along with District Secretary Ann Sewert and Gov. Doreen Pellittieri.
More information on the day's events and pictures from other dedications are available.

District Kiwanian Featured in Kiwanis Magazine
The June issue of Kiwanis Magazine includes an article on a New York Kiwanian describing his work with the people of Iraq. National Guard Lt. Col. Patrick Roemer, a member of the Lewiston club, led his Guard unit to work at an orphanage school where many of the students now proudly wear Kiwanis T-shirts. The Lewiston club is part of the Niagara Frontier North Division. |
